Fri, 20 April 2007  Direct show download, click here?OK, I wanted to do something a little different this week. This weeks show is a "sound collage" show. A sound collage is a work containing excerpts, or "samples" from previously made recordings. The Beatles experimented with this, as well as Frank Zappa and John Cage. Of course in modern music samples are now the norm. I am a fan of Negativland, a band which have released albums comprised entirely of collage. I recently became intrigued with the idea of producing a sound collage show. As you might imagine, I was a bit apprehensive. I didn't want the show to sound like a bunch of random crap thrown together. The challenge was to make the show interesting for fans of my podcast. I actually spent about three weeks working on the show. I considered abandoning the project several times. Its easy to get into a rut. I enjoy doing the podcast, but imagine eating the same dinner every night for almost two years. After a while you would crave something different. If you don't like this weeks show don't despair.
